Ikea: Swedish for AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

Fun and productive week around the Sydney area again :) My legs are aching today, really not used to doing this much walking so gave myself a morning off and have been incredibly lazy. Great! Have to do a bit of shopping then meeting up with my former colleagues because their contract ends today. After work drinks, yay!

Tuesday I went to the Museum of Sydney with one of my roommates at the hostel, Christine and Robin, a girl she met at orientation for Uni. Not the most thrilling museum I’ve ever been to, but with discount it was $5 so it was worth it. Favourite part of it for me was the exhibition with photos from Kings Cross in the 1970’s. Looked like an interesting time to be living here! Also got some fab pizza at Circular Quay and just had a massive walk around. I always seem to forget just how long the streets in Sydney are.

Got rid of about half my hair on Wednesday (long overdue!) and I’m still getting used to my drastically shortened locks but once they settle down, I’m sure I’ll love it. If not, it’s cold enough to get away with wearing a hat nearly all the time even if I look slightly bald with a hat on :P

Yest (Happy Belated Birthday to my cousin Faye!), Christine, Robin and I headed to Olympic Park to see the site of some sort of sporting event held there in 2000. I forget what it’s called… hmm. Anyway, saw the Olympic Torch thing, called The Cauldron. It is now a fountain and resembles a UFO. We declined to tour the stadium for 70 minutes (which would have robbed me of $22.80 and the others of $18) and headed to the Golf Centre. Those who know me well know that golf is one of my most hated sports. I find it horrendously boring to watch on TV (along with snooker and darts, bore, and cricket now that I’ve forgotten what the rules are) but actually whacking the crap out of some golf balls? It’s actually kind of fun. And according to Mark the Recovering-From-Breaking-His-Leg-In-Three-Places jockey, my swing is pretty good. Going to head out there again next week sometime.

Then we attempted to find Ikea. Succeeding (after walking about a mile around the outside of the shopping centre) led Christine to hot dogs and Robin and I to the cafĂ© before we begun our Ikea Adventure.

Four agonising hours later, we left. I may not be able to feel my calves at the moment, never want to see a pregnant woman again and go into a cold sweat at the sight of flat-pack furniture but at least Christine has a bed and a table and plates and stuff. And I didn’t kill anyone! :D Wins for everyone!

Also spent far too much time in the Bargain Basement Bookshop place located about 3 metres from the hostel. This week, I completely recommend Adrian Mole and the Prostate Years by Sue Townsend (still finding these books utterly hilarious!) and The Big Turnoff by Ellen Currey-Wilson (equally hilarious, it’s about a TV-addicted mother trying to raise a TV-free kid. Really good book). Yesterday I purchased The Last Days of the Lacuna Cabal by Sean Dixon for the low, low price of $3.95 (given that books RRP here for upwards of $20 dollars, I think we can all agree that this bookshop is AWESOME).

Weekend plans are relaxing, photo-uploading (I keep saying I’ll do this and then never do), looking for flights/hotels for when mum is here (6.5 weeks!) and catching up with Miss Innes and her posse.

Must go shower. My back has started to cramp up again and I should REALLY get myself to the shops!! (And Subway)

xx
